SUBLIME. I AM A BRITISH PAKISTANI WHO HAS GROWN UP ON QAWAALI AND JAZZ, MY BIGGEST HEROES BEING NUSRAT AND JOHN COLTRANE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE HAD DINNER WITH NUSRAT MANY YEARS AGO WHEN I USED TO ORGANISE MUSIC FESTIVALS IN THE UK. I CRIED WHEN I FIRST HEARD YOU GUYS!! MAY THE FORCES RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR EXISTENCE BLESS YOU ALL FOR THIS REMARKABLE CONTRIBUTION YOU HAVE MADE, NOT JUST TO MUSIC BUT TO HUMANITY. YOU HAVE TRANSENDED COLOUR, RACE, RELIGION, POLITICS AND BOUNDARIES AND ELEVATED YOURSELF TO ANOTHER LEVEL. A SPIRITUAL LEVEL THAT MOST OF US ONLY DREAM ABOUT. IN THE TRUE SPIRIT OF QAWAALI BQP ARE TOTALLY INTOXICATING. I FELT IN A COMPLETE STATE OF 'NASHA' (INTOXICATION) WHEN I LISTEN TO YOU, ESPECIALLY MUST MUST. THE BEST VERSION EVER AFTER NUSRAT. THANK YOU

Your music has brought a gush of tears to my eyes. No words can describe how much I love Ustad Nusrat's music. Music makes miracles happen. Your group is a miracle--it keeps a musical form alive, keeps Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's spirit alive, and is something completely new and fresh and GLOBAL. Your music transcends boundaries and I hope other musicians become inspired. Don't stop what you're doing! Keep doing it! It's AMAZING. TRANSCEND BOUNDARIES!

Hi There,

Does the Brooklyn Qawwali Party ever perform abroad, or just within the US?

Many Thanks!

Sophina

03.10.08
HI!
I am writing to ask when the group will be in D.C. or if they can be enticed to come to D.C. to perform?
I lived in India for two years and find live Qawwali very powerful. I have been searching for a way to bring that to some of my friends. I can't find any D.C. area Qawwals or Qawwali groups.
Please let me know what your tour schedule is or if you all would be willing to perform a few shows in D.C. (probably at one or two houses, and have you performed ever at the Smithsonian or the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage?)
I look forward to hearing from you, and congrats on collaborating with Rizwam-Muazzam! Thats great news!
Kind regards, Michael

Just stopping in to say hello, sorry I missed you last night at the Tea Lounge but I'll be back to say hello again. Great sound!

11.09.07
Cheers, your band is amazing and Qawwali music rocks. Ill be making my way to Barbes this Saturday and was hoping to get a chance to speak with one of the band members after the show. I am currently doing a research project on Qawwali music for my college so hearing any of your perspective would be fantastic. Robi

11.01.07
As a future music educator and Nusrat-lover I would LOVE to hear you live. Unfortunately I'm a college in Nebraska, so the finances involved in me flying to New York are all but non-existent. Do you ever tour or do your schedules not allow for extended leaves like that?

10.30.07
BQP rockin' Kripalu Yoga Center...Brooke & Jesse, it was cool havin' ya'll play with the KDZ Drummers at our weekly dance class. Too bad we missed the show, but I've been hearing that people couldn't dance any harder....Thanks for the CD; I hope you enjoy ours. The live album is 5 years old, and the burned studio album will be released in a couple months, so feedback on that one can help us tweek a few things before it's done. Peace Ya'll --- I want to meet the whole band next time! Adrian

10.19.07
We miss all of you. Hi to Brook and Liam.

This is Winnie that use to work at NYCPET.
Hope to see you soon.

10.17.07
My name is Steven Feinberg and I am a Graduate student at Duke University. I am researching Qawwali for an Ethnography of South Asian Religion course and was wonding if one (or some) of the members of your group would be willing to speak with me about your experience with the genre: what you feel is so special about Qawwali, why (or if) you feel is transcends any specific religion, etc. I hope to hear back from you! Thanks!

Steven

10.17.07
Hi there,

Do you ever come and ply in the UK? If so when and where? I live in London and would love to see you....

Best,

Angharad

10.16.07
Hey Brook... how about you guys come to Boston already? I know your going to Mass, but gotta hit up boston. I just saw you guys at the Highline, and also at Joe's Pub this summer. Boston would love you guys.

Get over here! And let me know if you need help with this... BU Business student over here with much music experience. Make it happen.

10.15.07
here is a piece of nusrat's that I think you guys should absolutely try out. Go out and experiment with this. This is a definite DO.

Here is the link to part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5zif2TUaOQ

10.13.07
I have to say i was a bit skeptic that a jazz band could duplicate the sound of Nusrat original recordings with Jazz instruments. But after listening to samples i think you've done a pretty good job. Thanks for keeping Nusrat's legacy alive. Do you have a cover for Yeh Jo halka halka ? I would love to hear your opening instrumental interlude of it. In my opinion it's the best qawwali instrumental arrangement ever.

10.08.07
Please check out Sukhawat Ali Khan's new solo cd "Shukriya" at www.jahnur.com. You will dig it.

10.07.07
Inspiring stuff! When are you coming to the San Francisco area?!! There are a bunch of American sufi musicians out here, who've got to hear you.

When are you going to add a lead vocalist or two?

Please add me to your list for announcements of concerts! I will be happy to forward announcements to the e-list I moderate

If I can help with setting up a gig or two in the San Francisco Bay Area, let me know.

09.29.07

I heard my first Nusrat on a Dutch fellow-traveler's Walkman, sitting on a balcony in Rawalpindi watching lizards stalk flies underneath the glare of flourescent light. I had never heard anything like it. I still haven't. I'm grateful that Real World made him so available to me once I got back to the States, and his music is no less powerful today than it was back in 1994. That being said, I'm amazed at what he sounds like through a BQP filter! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to appreciate this unforgettable artist in a totally new way! I purchased your CD within seconds of starting to listen to the first track!

09.05.07
great to see ustad nusrat fateh ali khans music is still leaving thanks to u all..i never got a chance to see nusrat saab performing live, that is my biggest regret in life, feels like life is somewhere incomplete. i hope i get a chance to c u perform.keep my god alive..

09.04.07
you guys rock! you unite, crossing boundaries of nations and the music is about spirituality which is inherent in each one of us. I love especially the fact that you are by chance circumstance an alien on this music's turf and yet are honoring it so much. Kudos and my deepest respects!

08.27.07
Hi, I heard about the band through an article I read. I wanted to know what record label the cd is under... I live in India, and would definitely be very interested in picking up the cd. I heard some of the music on the site, and I love it. If you could let me know the label, that would be great. Thanks.

08.19.07
Hi!Being one of the fans of The Great Nusrat I heard a lot about this band who follow the qwalli or infact spirituality of Nusrat's music........I recently listen your track "Man kunto Muala" and I was taken a back.........It at once strike me that the musc of Nusrat is reborn or the genre of Nusrat never even died.........Being a Pakistani citizen I always ashamed that we couldnt infuse the living breath in nusrat's musicology but here i find the greater live saviour of Nusrat music............May Allah bless you with success and rewads.
Syed Hasnain

Party people! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that came out to Barbes the other night. I'm always amazed that so many fans are willing to brave the heat and crowds of summer in nyc---rest assured that we appreciate every packed in/dancing/screaming last one of you! If you're at the India Independence Day Parade please feel free to bum-rush the float...

Special thanks to Peter Epstein and Shane Endsley who truly brought our horn section to a whole new level.

Hi, I am Amit, from Delhi, India, and I work for a leading magazine called Outlook. I am doing a special story on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Am quite fascinated by the fact Nusrat has got such a following in the US. I would like to interview you Mr Brook Martinez about your love for Sufi music and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. My e mail is amit.stephanian@gmail.com and phone no is +91-9911425858

07.12.07
Any chances of you touring other US cities?

Thanks,
Lisan

07.12.07
it's just so convenient that Brook lives in Brooklyn, isn't it?! the new website is incredible. it's a crime that i haven't seen you guys play yet, but i blame that on you for not coming to play in TEXAS where i could line up killer shows and a tour. Fortress of Attitude did it! anyway, i of course love the music and it's pretty much the only thing that gets played at my house except Mastodon. i'll never stop scheming ways to steal Brook from y'all for my band, though!

Hi Folks, First of all congratulations to you all for coming together to take the work of Nusrat Saheb(Sir) forward to the global audience. My name is Naveen and i belong to New delhi ( India). Today only i have come to know about your Brook's Qawalli Party -BQP. I am a follower, disciple, of Late Nusrat sahib. Its been almost 4 years i have been listening to his music. I wanna mention here that i regard that his work is beyond just music. I have been fortunate than you guys coz i also understand his language, thereby, his impact has been so severe on me that i can't explain. I have almost all his music and do understand almost what all he wanted to convey through his lyrics nd exceptional voice. I had also the pleasure of meeting Rahat Fateh ali Khan & Party couple of times in New delhi. Infact, I now share closeness with his team mates and we do call up each other also sometimes. I have always felt that Nusrat's work should have been more famous globally. I feel that the happiness and the joy that i have got, should be shared/ spread all over. I want to mention here that with no personal interest, if can be of any assistance to you guys in achieving your mission in this regard, i'll be very happy and fortunate. I work in a IT company for US projects for the past 4 years and infact work according to US timings here in India. Lets spread sufi music nd Nusrat globally and i'm sure this will make the man happy in heaven. Best Regards, Naveen Malhotra, New Delhi

Hey Brook...To carry forward the spirit of qawali music and what i call " Nusratism"...i have started working on www.geocities.com/naveen_malhotra1 . All you fans who feel that they can contribute their ideas are very much welcome. take care nd enjoy

07.12.07
While surfing the net for Nusrat Fateh Ali's music I came accross your website. I found your music very impressive. I should, to me, it is sounds even more melodious than the original. I should say I have become BQP's greatest fan. I wish that I could come to US to listen to you live but if you come to UK I will certainly catch you guys live. If you are interested on more such Qawwalis you should also listen to the stuff performed by Sabri brothers Qawwali. This is the link to some of his works. http://www.musicindiaonline.com/l/11/s/album.3797/

Just wanted to drop a quick note praising you and your band on giving so much respect to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Wanted to tell you how much we Pakistani Nusrat lovers appreciate your appreciation for music and utlity of your talents to present it in such a unique way.

Thank you for the Music

07.12.07
I have been listening to Nusrat for 10 years, and his music just keeps growing on me. My appreciation of Nusrat has lead me to trace his work back to Hafez and Rumi. And, I wasn't sure what I was expecting to hear at your performance, how interesting could a jazz spin on such traditional music be? And you know what, I was amazed. You guys were brilliant, and the energy in the room felt so familiar ...

It reminded me of a Thursday night ritual in Lahore that I went to
this winter - where an ensemble consisting of 4 dhol players (one lead) and many dervishes play from 11 pm to 4 am ... When I went, it was the dead of winter and they play outside. Surprisingly, nobody felt the cold until they left the circle.

The energy they created and you created has the same genesis. Nusrat, Rumi and Hafez would be very proud - and am not sure if sufi purists have disparaged the BQP - for what its worth Nusrat's spirit was in that room. You honored him at your performance, and if he was alive he would have been honored to play with you.

With warm regards,
Salhuddin

Brook's Qawwali Party.... First I thought it’s a joke for the name of professionalism, but after listening to your "music". I was proud of my cultural n I feel happy to thank u to understand the nature of the legacy that Late Ustad Nusrat Fetah Ali khan left....

I believe one can see through the unique blend of Sufism n jazz n the honesty to give the person his credits, not like Santana’s new album song “Trinity” that is a total rip-off from his song “Tera Bina Nahie Lagda” …..

Cheers,
Awais Aman

07.12.07
Great work! I found your site through wikipedia. You picked some of my favorite tracks to work with. Made me go back to originals and listen to them again.
Would love to hear more out of your group.
From Amsterdam

Just caught your show at the Tea Lounge. You guys were wonderful. I'd love to see you in a place with a dance floor. You're like a Sufi version of Antibalas, with the potential to be just as big. The best of luck to you guys!
